This was a challenge arranged by the Norwegian design council and the Helen Hamlyn Centre - Royal College of Art. The challenge is backed by the Norwegian Ministry of children, equality and social inclusion.
I'll post the brief and our solution shortly! meanwhile here's a link to the event: http://www.norskdesign.no/innovation-for-all-2012/winners-of-design-challenge-announced-article22285-8931.html My profile in a new project by File Magazine called Citylikeyou:
We are excited to unveil a new addition to FILE, Citylikeyou. An inspirational view about creatives and their cities. At Citylikeyou selected creatives from across the world will introduce you to their favorite places, as well as a personal insight into how their work and lives are reflected by the city http://file-magazine.com/citylikeyou/profiles/martin-johnson Other news is that my Bachelor project starts on monday - That was those 3 years gone! Hope I've learned something... My Wash hand basin is exhibiting at Hadeland Glassworks Winter Festival from 04.02 to 26.02 as part of a competition by Statoil and Norwegian Arts and Crafts Centre. The theme was tomorrows heroes make tomorrows heritage, and my product received an honourable mention by the jury. There's loads of cool stuff there, with a lot of artists and sculpters selling their stuff, plus all the products that the glassworks produces, and it's a fun place to wander around, so I can recommend a little trip there (about an hour outside of Oslo).
http://www.hadeland-glassverk.no/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1 http://www.husflid.no/husflid/nyheter/heltene_er_kaaret First post of the new year - my wash hand basin (Now called Månå - after a famous Norwegian waterfall) is finished. I've entered it into the Norwegian Arts and Crafts competition called "tomorrows heroes". The criteria is to use old traditions, materials or techniques and incorporate them into something new. Fingers crossed :-)
Our current project at school is mostly theoretical - market research etc, and meant to get us on track for our bachelor exam. I'm still not 100% sure what 2 do for my bachelor - so if anyone has any problems they wish to solve then please contact me! Or if anyone works somewhere that might be interested in a collaboration. It doesn't have to be product based, can be interaction etc. I'm working on a combined faucet/basin but without the basin. The idea is that no-one ever fills the basin with water anymore, so why not take it away? I'm trying to make the water an important part of the overall aesthetics, and as usual make everything as minimalistic and practical as possible :-). Picture and video from mock-up and testing Should be finished just b4 xmas... 17. november 2011 in Bærum kulturhus I will be holding an extremely short presentation of my lamp "Klean" at the biannual Lighting day i Norway! www.lysdagen.no My lamp will be exhibited in Møbelringen Metro 29th October til 2nd december.
